Knowing Your Role
In Matthew 10:24, Jesus clearly states to the disciples (which we should also pay close attention to), “A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.”
One of our worst problems is our flesh always seems to get the best of us when it comes to understanding and accepting authority and hierarchy. It happens daily with the law, our jobs, our marriages and relationships, children to parents, and so on and so forth. We may not always agree with what we are supposed to or asked to do, but that is what we are commanded to do (unless it results in sin against God). However, let us not allow our wants and desires to be used as the word of God. The reason God puts authority and hierarchy on earth is to test us, to see if we are worthy to be welcomed to His kingdom, lest we get there and dispute His perfection and become unwilling to bow down to the Lord Jesus Christ. Submitting to authority is not being submissive to that particular authority, it is being submissive to God and His glorious will for us. Let us soften our hearts and weaken our knees so we can easily bow down to the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
