All or Nothing
Let’s examine a basketball game in the fourth quarter with 10 seconds to go; the home team‘s down by two and the clock winds down to one second, the star player shoots the three point shot, the commentator says he is going for it all and the shot…
My beloved, when we are in Christ, we must be in Him to the fullest so that His glory shines throughout the world of darkness. We cannot have one foot in this world and the other foot in Christ. Either we give our life entirely to Christ or we keep our pagan ways. So many times, we as Christians partake in the worldly dealing because we find it fun and interesting. We miss our old nature and we try to lie to God, but we are only lying to ourselves because God knows our hearts. Sin is degrading and disgusting and we should not find pleasure in it. Oh yes, our flesh surely finds pleasure in it, but our flesh will surely die at the Father’s calling. Let’s not let our spirit die with our flesh.
When we serve God, we are to serve because we want to, not because we feel that we have to or it is a burden or it’s the work we have to do to make it to heaven. Heaven is a gift; it is not something we need to work for. We are to serve God because we are thankful for the sacrifice that He made so we could have eternal life. If we are not thankful, then we should not be hypocrites. I heard an amazing example on how we can serve God only with our bodies and not with our hearts. The example goes “We say we serve God by teaching Sunday school, but what’s important is how many times were you unprepared? How many times were you late?”
Brethren, we can coordinate sins with our friends so well but we put serving our Lord, who laid down His life for us last. He put us first, and we must do the same for Him. Let us not join the world in its sin but let us rejoice as we serve the Lord our God for being the great I AM.
Lord, lead us not into temptation, and protect us in the shadows of your wings and deliver us from all evil. You are the great and faithful provider. Please cleanse our lives of all sins and impurities so we may be a reflection of You to this dark world.
