Know Jesus

Servant of Christ Jesus

While the disciples were in the middle of the sea of Galilee, they faced a great storm. During the middle of the night, Jesus came to them walking on the raging seas. In Matthew 14:26, when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.

We have to make sure that we are steadily focused on God and not merely focused on His miracles and the things He does for us. We should not be able to only recognize God by what He does but most importantly by who He is. As we see the disciples did not even recognize the Lord after spending so much time with Him. It leads me to ask whether they were keeping their eyes on Jesus or on what miracle He would perform next. Would He heal a lame man? Would He cast demons out of a child? Would He feed another multitude of people? Would He turn water into wine again? It almost sounds like a magic show or better yet a miracle show. We do the same though. We look to see who will be healed miraculously, or saved from a dangerous situation, or what marriage or relationship will be restored. If God decided not to heal a person, or not rescue someone from a particular circumstance, or not fix a marriage, would we still believe He is the true and living God? Would we still be assured that He has power, control, and dominion over all? I surely hope so! If not, we have totally lost sight of who God really is. I suppose the ultimate question is if Jesus was sitting right next to us, would we recognize Him as our King, our Lord, our Savior, our brother, and our friend? We really need to keep our eyes on Him and not His works. We definitely are to be thankful for all He provides to us, but we must make sure that we know that He is the Lord and keep our eyes fully focused on Him.
