The Day We Tried to Kill God

Servant of Christ Jesus

Attempted murder carries the same sentence as actually committing murder. If the person does not die, you are just as guilty as if they did. Murder is such a heinous crime, to actually take the life of another human being that God breathed life into. Yet we are very excited to see murder in movies, the news constantly reports homicides on a daily basis, protesters march for the liberty of murderers, and on a daily basis, unborn babies are continually murdered heartlessly. Yet, it seems as if only a few are disturbed by this. The rest of the world brushes it off as this is how life was intended to be. This is very depressing. Yet, we have the audacity to ask why we’re in the situations we face today. We were all disturbed by the Jewish holocaust that took place in Germany years ago, yet we have been trying to legalize the holocaust of unborn babies because of the selfish desires to feed our flesh. No wonder the Lord will strike us with AIDS, HIV, STDs and much more. However, we do not take heed to His warnings and continue to murder His children day in and day out.

However, I am not surprised by the actions of the world. After all, we did try to kill the true and living God two thousand years ago. Imagine that: attempted murder on God. Who tried to kill God? Was it the Jewish people? Was it the Romans? Was it the religious leaders? Was it Pilate? Well, honestly, everyone played their part in the failed attempt to murder God, including us.

God our Father sacrificed His only begotten Son Jesus Christ for our past, present and future sins so we could have a relationship with Him. There is no one or nothing but Jesus needed to have a relationship with God our Father. No religion, no denomination, not dressing a certain way, wearing jewelry or not wearing jewelry, and all that other nonsense that religion tries to put on us as useless burdens. Jesus said “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” in Matthew 11:28 and “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!” in John 7:37 and “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” in John 6:35. Through the blood of Christ that poured out while hanging on the cross, we were once again united to God. When Jesus Christ rose again from the dead, He gave us new life: The life we were created to live from the beginning of time, a life to worship and glorify God.

At the same time, God was performing His greatest miracle displaying His unconditional and everlasting love for us through His Son Jesus Christ; we were showing our hatred for God. Blatant sin is a display of hatred for God. To know what is wrong, what is against God’s will, and do it anyways is disrespectful to God. When we knowingly and willfully sin against God, we are basically saying “I don’t care.” The beating that Christ took when on trial is what we try to do to God when we openly sin. When our hearts are not in accord with God, we try to do our own things. When we try to do our own things, God is not involved. Going our own way always leads to sin because we are commanded to follow after Jesus Christ, the Lord our God.

How can we then say we love God but not know Him? How can we say we know Him if we do not read His word? How can we know God if we do not know Jesus? The only way to God is through Jesus. The only way to know Jesus is through the Word of God. Jesus said “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him” in John 14:7 and “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the father except through Me” in John 14:6. Jesus said “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life” in John 5:39.  Reading the bible a million times does not send us to heaven; saying the same prayer around a rosary bead a million times does not get us to heaven; shaking, acting like we are speaking in tongues, or making up random prophecies does not mean we are of God or have the Holy Spirit. Let’s not be hypocrites and lie to ourselves. God knows the hearts of men (our hearts) better than we do. After all, He created everything. If we say we love God, let’s follow Him. Jesus said “If you love Me, keep My commandments,” in John 14:15. The two commandments of the new covenant which sums up all the Law, all 631 of them, (given through Moses) and the Prophets, boil down to “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself” in Matthew 22:37-39.  They sound simple but we can’t even do that on our own. That is why we need to turn our lives over to Jesus! Thank God for His Holy Spirit who strengthens us!
