What’s Important?

Servant of Christ Jesus

In Matthew 16:25, Jesus continues to speak to the disciples giving them the true cost of following Him saying, “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”

What is important to you? Is it the things we collect in this lifetime? We work so hard to have the big house, expensive furniture, exotic and high-end luxury cars, the finest jewelry to make us feel we have accomplished something important in this life here on earth. We often look to people who are high in age, maybe their late 80s to early 90s and especially those who make it 100 or more and say they have lived a full life. However, that is a full life according to who? Of course, from a human perspective, those numbers seem to be a lot. On the other hand, in the eyes of an everlasting eternal God, that isn’t much time. To God, eternal life is a full life. We can try to collect stuff but it is meaningless because we all die before we can enjoy them. However, those who put their faith, hope, and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ shall inherit eternal life and the fullness of it. How do we do this? We must deny our self wants and desires (which are not that fulfilling anyways). Our own wants and desires are like eating crepes. They may taste very good for a while but they are never filling. You can’t eat just one and 10-15 minutes later you are starving again. Don’t get me wrong. I love crepes, but they simply do not satisfy. Our selfish wants and desires are really not worth it. We need to ask God to make His dreams for us our dreams; His goals our goals; His visions our visions; His will our will. Then we can have a more abundant and fulfilling life. Eternal life!
